| loot can become a serious problem in guilds, i've seen it myself. we're going to try to eliminate that in our guild. as far as 5 man groups go, here is what we suggest:
1) all BoE items greed roll, unless someone needs it. at that point, the person needing needs to inform the group in chat first, then roll need. this will keep you from looking like a ninja.
2) all BoP items pass, then the people with whom can use it discuss it, then need/greed roll. now here's the tricky part, if the item is a small upgrade for you, but huge to someone else, please pass it to that person as it's going to make us stronger as a whole
3) if all else fails, use master looter. hold all BoE until the end of the run which then they will be rolled on, all BoP handed out as they drop. if you run a group with me, i'm going to use ML, as i think it helps be fair.
now, once we get to raiding, that's when i've seen people get greedy. that epic drops and it becomes an "OMG a PURPLE" type of deal. for this reason, we are going to take advantage of the suicide king mod. basically, here's what happens:
1) everyone in the raid rolls 2 /random 1000. the mod then saves the #'s, and places everyone on a list for a) multi-class items single class items.
2) all members are then saved in their position (for example, if someone doesn't show, they don't loose their spot, and they don't gain a spot).
3) as loot drops, the person at the top of the list has access to it first. should they take it, they drop to the bottom of the list. if they pass, they will keep their spot in line, and the person who does take it will drop to the bottom of the list.
